What Is UltraClear® Laser-Coring?

UltraClear® is a next-generation resurfacing solution that redefines how we treat aging and damaged skin – combining precision, power, and versatility and all with minimal downtime. Unlike traditional Co2 and other resurfacing lasers, UltraClear uses advanced cold fiber laser technology that delivers ultra-short pulses with no lateral heat spread. Each pulse provides controlled heating with zero thermal diffusion, significantly reducing thermal damage to surrounding tissue.

This distinction is critical: when paired with UltraClear’s proprietary micropulsing technology, 33 micropulses per dot, it increases thermal relaxation time (TRT), enhancing safety across a wide range of skin types. However, not all settings are universally safe, so treatments are carefully customized to your skin’s unique needs.

UltraClear offers six distinct treatment modes: 3DMiracle, Clear, Clear+, Ultra, UltraClear, and Full Ablation, plus a surgical handpiece for advanced applications. This versatility allows our team at DrSkin Med Spa to address everything from superficial concerns like fine lines and wrinkles, uneven texture, sun damage to more complex conditions such as acne scars, surgical scars, vascular dyschromia, melasma, and deep scarring. Through specialized techniques like laser coring, which can be stacked with ablation, UltraClear delivers unmatched results in skin resurfacing, scar revision, and skin laxity improvements.

Additionally, UltraClear is designed for high-precision laser coring and deep tissue remodeling, particularly in cases of severe scarring or skin laxity. This specialized setting allows DrSkin providers to deliver concentrated laser energy into vertical columns of the dermis while preserving surrounding tissues.

At DrSkin Med Spa, we offer a truly personalized and advanced experience for patients seeking skin rejuvenation through UltraClear laser treatments. This cutting-edge technology combines precision with comfort, delivering powerful results with minimal downtime. Leading our UltraClear treatments is Joy Chapman, our Master Esthetician and Certified Laser Technician. With her extensive education, respected credentials, and refined aesthetic eye, Joy ensures each patient receives a treatment plan tailored to their unique skin concerns and goals. Working closely with expert Terence Kazlow, Joy evaluates each patient’s skin conditions and customize UltraClear protocols to achieve optimal outcomes. UltraClear® Treatment Modes: Precision Tailored to Your Skin

UltraClear® offers six distinct treatment modes, each engineered to target specific skin concerns with varying levels of intensity and depth. This modular approach allows Joy and Terence to customize treatments based on your skin type, goals, and tolerance, from gentle refreshments to advanced remodeling.

3DMiracle

3DMiracle is UltraClear’s most superficial, non-ablative setting making it safe for all Fitzpatrick types (I-IV). With no ablation or lateral heat spread, this mode is ideal for darker skin tones and sensitive skin. It delivers low-energy pulses that penetrate the epidermis without disrupting the skin barrier. The goal is to stimulate superficial collagen remodeling and epidermal turnover without downtime. It’s ideal for patients seeking a quick, but efficient refresh that improves tone, texture, and radiance. The 3DMiracle mode is often used as a maintenance protocol or for first-time laser patients with minimal photo damage.

Clear

The Clear mode introduces controlled ablation at the epidermal level. It removes micro-columns of tissue while preserving surrounding skin architecture, initiating a wound-healing cascade that promotes neocollagenesis. This mode is suitable for patients with mild to moderate photo damage, enlarged pores, and superficial pigmentary changes, and it’s safe for Fitzpatrick I-V. We do encourage caution for Type VI due to increased risk of PIH with ablative energy, but with conservative settings and post-care, Joy or Terence will determine if it’s a safe option for darker skin tones.

Clear+

A step above the Clear mode, Clear+ increases pulse energy and depth, reaching the mid-dermis. It enhances collagen stimulation and dermal remodeling while maintaining a favorable safety profile. This setting is appropriate for patients with moderate wrinkles, pigmentary dyschromia, and early scarring. It may require a longer recovery time, usually 2 to 4 days, depending on energy density and stacking. Same for Fitzpatrick I-IV; however, types V-VI will require pre-treatment evaluation and spot treatments, but with the micropulsing technology, risks are mitigated but not eliminated.

Ultra Mode

Ultra Mode delivers higher fluency with deeper penetration into the reticular dermis. It is designed for significant skin remodeling, targeting deep wrinkles, elastosis, and more advanced photodamage. The increased depth allows for robust collagen induction and dermal tightening. The downtime after Ultra Mode will usually require 4 to 7 days, with erythema and some edema. Ultra mode is best suited for Fitzpatrick I-III, although type IV may tolerate with adjusted fluency and spacing.

UltraClear Mode

The UltraClear mode is the platform’s signature mode, combining high fluency with optimized micropulsing and cold fiber delivery. It balances depth, safety, and efficacy, making it suitable for complex pigmentary issues and mixed-type scarring. UltraClear mode is often used for treating melasma due to its minimal thermal diffusion and reduced risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

The depth reached with this mode varies and is customized from superficial to deep dermis. Recovery usually takes 3 to 5 days, depending on treatment intensity. Due to the cold fiber and micropulsing, this mode is safe for Fitzpatrick I-V. Type VI may be treated with conservative parameters and pigment suppression.

Full Ablation Mode

The Full Ablation mode is the most aggressive setting, designed for full-field resurfacing. It removed the entire epidermis and portions of the dermis in a controlled fashion. Full Ablation mode is reserved for severe photodamage, deep scars, and patients seeking dramatic rejuvenation. It requires extended recovery, including 7 to 10 days or more depending on coverage and stacking, and will require strict post-care protocols. The Full Ablative mode is recommended only for Fitzpatrick I-III and is deemed unsafe for darker skin tones due to high risk of PIH and scarring.

The UltraClear® Surgical Handpiece

For patients requiring more advanced transformation, UltraClear’s surgical handpiece offers a powerful solution for deep tissue remodeling. This specialized tool is designed to deliver concentrated columns of energy into the dermis to precisely target deep set scars, tethered tissue, and areas of significant skin laxity. Unlike surface-level treatments, UltraClear penetrates vertically into the skin to break up fibrotic bands and stimulate more robust collagen remodeling from within, all while preserving the surrounding tissue.

The surgical handpiece can also be used in conjunction with ablative modes in a technique known as “stacking,” because it stacks energy at multiple depths, allowing for more comprehensive resurfacing and structural rejuvenation in a single session. When used by experienced providers like Joy Chapman and Terence Kazlow, this tool becomes a precision instrument for transformative results, offering patients a level of correction that was once only achievable through surgical intervention.

Benefits of UltraClear in Tempe AZ

UltraClear® offers a powerful yet gentle approach to skin rejuvenation, combining the precision of advanced cold fiber laser technology with the versatility necessary to treat both superficial and deep skin concerns. Unlike other Co2 lasers, UltraClear preserves the integrity of the skin barrier while still delivering the strength necessary for noticeable results with minimal discomfort and downtime.

With six customizable treatment modes, plus a surgical handpiece, UltraClear can be tailored to address a wide spectrum of skin conditions, including fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, surgical and acne scars, vascular lesions, hyperpigmentation, and melasma. The power lies in the UltraClear cold fiber laser pulses that are delivered with zero lateral heat spread and no thermal diffusion. Preparing for Your UltraClear® Treatment at DrSkin Med Spa

To ensure the safest and most effective UltraClear laser experience, Joy or Terence will begin every treatment with a comprehensive consultation. During this visit, they will assess your skin type, tone, and medical history to determine if there are any contraindications to treatment and clarify your goals and expectations. This personalized approach allows them to select the most appropriate treatment mode and tailor your experience for optimal results. If you’re taking photosensitizing medications or have a history of pigmentary conditions, please disclose this during your consultation so that we can adjust your plan accordingly.

In the weeks leading up to your UltraClear appointment, we may recommend a pre-treatment regimen to reduce the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), especially for patients with darker skin tones or history of pigment sensitivity. This may include topical medications such as tretinoin, retinoid acid, hydroquinone, or kojic acid, used for at least four weeks prior to your treatment. For patients with active acne, pre-treatment with adapalene or tazarotene can help reduce inflammation and improve your outcomes. In some cases, prophylactic medications like doxycycline or cefalexin may be prescribed to prevent bacterial infection, and antiviral agents may be recommended for those with a history of cold sores or fever blisters.

On the day of your UltraClear appointment, arrive with clean skin that is free of makeup, lotions, sunscreens, perfumes, or oils. Hydration is important, so drink plenty of water beforehand. Before treatment begins, we’ll take clinical photographs of the area being treated, which will help us monitor your progress and healing. For male patients, it’s important to note that treating hair-bearing areas may result in follicular damage and hair loss. If hair preservation is desired, we’ll avoid treating beard or scalp zones.

To ensure your skin responds safely to the selected treatment parameters, we perform a test spot several days before your full procedure. This involves applying the laser at multiple energy levels using the smallest pattern size to observe your skin’s healing response. Based on this test, we’ll determine the ideal treatment settings and whether topical anesthesia is required.

Your experience begins with a personalized consultation, where Joy or Terence will assess your skin, discuss your goals, and select the ideal treatment mode from UltraClear’s six customizable settings. This ensures your session is tailored to your skin type, lifestyle, and desired outcomes. On the day of treatment, your skin will be gently cleansed and prepped. Phoenix UltraClear® FAQS

UltraClear represents a significant advancement in laser technology by using a cold fiber 2910 nm Er:YAG laser that delivers fractional energy with minimal thermal impact. Unlike traditional CO2 and Erbium lasers, which rely on high heat to resurface the skin and often carry a higher risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), UltraClear emits ultra-short pulses with no lateral heat spread and zero thermal diffusion. This dramatically reduces damage done to surrounding tissue, making it a safer and more effective option for patients with melanin-rich skin tones.

The cold laser delivery preserves the integrity of the epidermal barrier and minimizes inflammatory response, which is critical for darker skin types where melanocytes are more reactive to heat and trauma. By increasing thermal relaxation time (TRT) through its micropulsing technology, UltraClear allows for controlled dermal stimulation without overheating the skin. This allows for deep collagen remodeling and tissue regeneration while significantly lowering the risk of pigmentary concerns.

Yes, UltraClear is safe and effective for all Fitzpatrick skin types, including darker tones due to the versatility of the six distinct treatment modes. At DrSkin Med Spa, Joy Chapman and Terence Kazlow use these modes to precisely tailor each session to your skin’s biology, tone, and therapeutic goals. Whether you’re seeking a gentle refresh or deep structural remodeling, they select the appropriate mode based on your skin’s tolerance, pigmentation risk, and desired outcome. Each treatment mode offers a different depth and intensity, from non-ablative polishing to deep fractional resurfacing and laser coring. Joy and Terence begin with a comprehensive consultation and, when appropriate, a test spot to determine the safest and most effective mode for your complexion. Their expertise ensures that every UltraClear session is not only clinically advanced but also personalized to deliver transformative results with confidence and care.

UltraClear can be beneficial for acne-prone skin, especially when targeting post-acne scarring, enlarged pores, and uneven texture. However, it’s not recommended to treat areas with active, inflamed breakouts. During your consultation, Joy Chapman or Terence Kazlow will assess the condition of your skin and may recommend a regimen to calm active acne before proceeding with UltraClear.

UltraClear offers six distinct treatment modes, each designed to address specific skin concerns with varying levels of intensity and recovery. While some patients see visible improvements in tone and texture after just one session, the number of treatments needed depends entirely on the selected mode and the depth of correction required. For lighter resurfacing or polishing treatments, 1–2 sessions may be sufficient. More intensive protocols, such as those targeting deep rhytids, surgical scars, or advanced pigment correction, may require 1–3 treatments, spaced several weeks apart. Only one setting on the UltraClear system typically calls for a series of 3–6 sessions, and that’s reserved for progressive rejuvenation goals or layered concerns. At DrSkin Med Spa, Joy Chapman and Terence Kazlow will assess your skin in detail and customize a treatment plan based on your Fitzpatrick type, aesthetic goals, and tolerance for downtime. This ensures every UltraClear session is precisely calibrated to deliver safe, effective, and long-lasting results.

UltraClear pairs exceptionally well with regenerative therapies that amplify its skin-rejuvenating effects. At DrSkin Med Spa, we often combine UltraClear with Salmon DNA (Polydeoxyribonucleotide or PDRN) and exosomes enriched with mesenchymal stem cells to accelerate healing, enhance collagen synthesis, and improve overall skin quality. PDRN, derived from Salmon DNA, is known for its powerful anti-inflammatory and tissue-repairing properties. When applied post-laser, it helps soothe the skin, stimulate fibroblast activity, and support cellular regeneration. Exosomes, which carry growth factors and signaling molecules from mesenchymal stem cells, further boost skin recovery and rejuvenation. These advanced biologic therapies are applied immediately after your UltraClear session to optimize results and minimize downtime. Our team will guide you through the best combination protocols based on your skin type, treatment depth, and aesthetic goals, ensuring a truly customized and transformative experience.

Before treatment, avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, retinoids, and exfoliating acids for at least 5 to 7 days. After treatment, avoid hot showers, intense workouts, and direct sun exposure for 48 hours. Use gentle skincare and broad-spectrum SPF daily. DrSkin Med Spa provides detailed pre- and post-care instructions to ensure a smooth recovery and optimal results.

UltraClear can significantly improve uneven pigmentation and sun damage, and unlike traditional lasers, it offers a safer and more effective option for treating melasma, even in patients with darker skin tones. Melasma is notoriously sensitive to heat and inflammation, which is why conventional lasers often pose a risk of worsening pigmentation, especially in darker skin tones and other Fitzpatrick types IV–VI.

What makes UltraClear different is its cold fiber laser delivery system, which emits ultra-short pulses of energy with minimal thermal buildup. This dramatically reduces the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), a common concern in melanin-rich skin. The fiber optic channel allows for precise fractional energy delivery, targeting pigment at controlled depths while preserving the surrounding tissue and epidermal barrier. Additionally, UltraClear’s ability to customize treatment modes means providers can select lower-energy settings specifically designed to treat melasma safely, without triggering inflammation. At DrSkin Med Spa, our team carefully evaluates each patient’s skin type and pigmentation pattern to determine the most appropriate protocol, ensuring safe, targeted, and effective results for all skin tones.

Unlike traditional lasers used for hair removal or IPL treatments, which often produce a sharp snapping sensation, UltraClear feels distinctly different. Most patients describe the experience as a gentle warmth or mild prickling, without the sudden sting or rubber band snap commonly associated with high-heat devices. This difference is due to UltraClear’s cold fiber laser delivery system, which transmits energy through a fiber optic channel in ultra-short pulses. These pulses are engineered to minimize thermal buildup, meaning the skin absorbs the energy without the intense heat spike that typically causes discomfort. By avoiding excessive heat, UltraClear reduces nerve stimulation and inflammation, making the treatment more comfortable and better tolerated, even without numbing in many cases. At DrSkin Med Spa, Joy Chapman or Terence Kazlow will select the appropriate treatment mode and energy level based on your skin type and goals, ensuring a safe, effective, and comfortable experience from start to finish.

UltraClear is highly effective for treating crepey, thinning skin on the neck and décolletage, areas that are notoriously delicate and prone to premature aging. What makes UltraClear uniquely suited for these regions is its cold fiber fractional laser technology, which delivers ultra-short pulses of energy through a fiber optic channel. This allows for precise dermal stimulation with minimal thermal damage to the epidermis, significantly reducing the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and over-treatment.

Unlike traditional ablative lasers, UltraClear offers six customizable treatment modes, enabling providers to select the ideal depth and intensity based on the patient’s skin condition and tolerance. For superficial crepiness and mild laxity, lighter modes can stimulate collagen and elastin with minimal downtime. For more advanced thinning or sun damage, deeper fractional settings can be used to remodel the dermal matrix and restore firmness. At DrSkin Med Spa, Joy Chapman and Terence Kazlow tailor each UltraClear protocol to the anatomical sensitivity and structural needs of the neck and décolletage, ensuring safe, targeted rejuvenation with clinically superior outcomes.

Makeup application after UltraClear treatment depends entirely on the depth and intensity of the procedure. With UltraClear’s six customizable modes, ranging from light polishing to deep fractional resurfacing and laser coring, post-treatment recovery can vary significantly. For superficial treatments, patients may be able to safely apply makeup within 24 to 48 hours once any redness or sensitivity has subsided and the skin barrier is intact. However, for deeper protocols involving more aggressive resurfacing, makeup should be avoided for 5 to 10 days to allow full epithelial recovery and prevent irritation or delayed healing. At DrSkin Med Spa, Joy or Terence will give you personalized post-care instructions based on your specific treatment mode, skin type, and healing response. We also recommend medical-grade skincare and makeup options that support barrier repair and enhance your results without compromising safety.
