Dr. Jaiswal received his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine after completing his undergraduate education at The University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Jaiswal also holds a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree, reflecting his commitment to the broader impact of healthcare and emphasizing his understanding of public health practices and their impact on individual and community outcomes.

Graduating cum laude, Dr. Jaiswal was among the top students in his medical school class, demonstrating a strong foundation in both clinical knowledge and academic excellence. Q&A With Dr. Jaiswal

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Tennessee, Ohio, Maryland, and California.

Tell us about your education and training.

I completed an undergraduate degree at the University of California, Berkeley. I then graduated from medical school with honors at The Ohio State University, in addition to obtaining a master’s in public health. I trained in plastic and reconstructive surgery for 7 years at The University of California, Davis Medical Center and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

What type of surgical procedure do you specialize in?

I perform both cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. I do mostly cosmetic surgery—anything from head to toe. My most common procedure is eyelid lifts.

What is your philosophy in your practice?

I operate using many principles. The safety and dignity of the patient are number one. I only do procedures if I think there is a good chance of a reasonable improvement. Perfection is not possible, though improvement is.

Why did you become a plastic surgeon?

I liked the challenge of having to use both sides of my brain to accomplish a task. I get to be a surgeon, artist, doctor, businessman, psychologist, and philosopher every day.

What do you like most about being a plastic surgeon?

I get to change lives by changing someone’s appearance or reconstructing their body. I can take something abnormal and make it normal or take something normal and make it optimal.

What methods did you employ to accomplish your goal of becoming a successful doctor?

Focus, dedication, fairness, compassion, determination, and humility—never being arrogant to believe I am always right and always believing I can learn from those better than me, instead of envying them.

What do you like to do in your leisure time when you are not operating or seeing patients?

Eating, sleeping, and cheering on the Cal Bears!

What epiphany did you experience while studying to become a surgeon that led you to choose aesthetic surgery?

This is the only area of medicine where I could use artistic skills to treat a patient. While other areas have become algorithm-based, plastic surgery requires the surgeon to have an artistic eye, much like an interior designer.

What setbacks or obstacles did you encounter while pursuing your goals?

Plastic surgery is the hardest specialty for a doctor to match into. This meant nearly a decade of school and then another decade of training, up to 80 hours a week. There was little sleep and lots of failures. The thought of quitting was easy. Picking myself off the floor and pushing myself to get better were the hardest things I’ve had to do.

What three words best describe you?

Fair, compassionate, and determined.

What mentors do you currently have, or have you had during your career, who made a lasting impact on you?

I’ve learned something from every surgeon I trained under—whether they were plastic surgeons or not. Every day, I use a lesson I’ve learned during my training and early years of practice.

How did your journey to be a plastic surgeon change you internally?

I understood the human psyche much better. I learned we are unnecessarily hard on ourselves, and no one else sees us the way we look at ourselves. I also learned the importance of understanding probability, risk, and unpredictability in medicine and life.

Why do patients choose you as their plastic surgeon, and what makes you different and unique?

Most patients tell me they chose me because of word of mouth, which is the highest compliment. Every surgeon is different and unique in his or her own way. I focus on the simplest way to get the best outcome and focus on making every result appear as natural as possible to produce elegant, beautiful results.
