What is Acne?

CUSTOM TREATMENTS

Acne occurs when hair follicles in the dermis get clogged. This is typically caused by oil, dead skin cells, and bacteria. Acne most commonly occurs in the face, back, and chest because those areas contain the highest number of oil glands. Puberty, menstruation, and pregnancy can also cause acne flare-ups.

Let’s keep it real. We would all love clear skin, especially without the epic makeup routine. Teenage and adult acne can be frustrating, especially when we make the effort to keep our skin clean and free of excess oil. Fortunately, at DrSkin we offer many different treatments and combinations of therapies to combat chronic acne and flare-ups, which will leave you with clear skin and the confidence that comes with it. It’s a win, win!

How Does DrSkin Help With Acne?

Acne can affect people of all ages and skin types. This skin condition occurs when the hair follicles in your skin become congested with dead skin cells, oil, and dirt, causing pimples, whiteheads, and blackheads to form.

Dealing with acne can be distressing and may even result in scarred skin. Selecting the right kinds of treatments for the acne you have and being proactive can help eliminate further breakouts.

Acne may appear on the forehead, face, chest, back, and shoulders.

How Do You Treat Different Kinds of Acne?

At DrSkin, we offer a wide variety of treatments to help fight acne, including facials and medical grade skincare products. Additionally, you will have a specialist working alongside you to make sure that you are receiving the best of care. That said, we must recommend that anyone with severe acne—more than 30 lesions—should consider speaking with their primary care physician. Certain types of acne do not respond to anything but prescription medication.

Here is a look at how our team would treat various types of acne:

  • Whiteheads: For this, a classic approach is used, which includes exfoliation and deep cleansing mask. Decongesting, laser therapy, and microdermabrasion may also be used.
  • Blackheads: Exfoliation, decongesting, laser therapy, exfoliation, and cleansing masks are recommended.
  • Pimples: LED therapy, combined with microneedling, and chemical peels using salicylic acid or glycolic acid are beneficial to pimples.
  • Papules: Same as pimples.
  • Discoloration: Exfoliation, LED therapy, enzyme facials, and skin brightening treatments can reduce discoloration, including skin redness.
  • Acne scars: Although many treatments do not work on hypertrophic or keloid scars, there are treatments for atrophic or depressed scars, such as microdermabrasion and chemical peels with enzymes.

What Kind of Facials Can Treat Acne?

There are many kinds of facials that can be used to treat acne. Your personalized acne treatment may contain any of the following:

Chemical Peels

Effective and affordable, skin peels are used to treat mild to moderate acne, even for those with darker skin. Common chemical peels contain a mixture of salicylic acid, retinoic acid, lactic acid, glycolic acid, and trichloroacetic acid. These ingredients are known for their acne-fighting capabilities.

Laser Therapy

Laser therapy is non-invasive and ideal for destroying acne, reducing inflammation, and resurfacing the skin. Another benefit of laser therapy is enhanced collagen production, which aids in scar reduction.

LED Therapy

Combining LED therapy with your facial is an excellent way to combat the bacteria that causes acne breakouts, while also promoting collagen production. If you have sensitive skin, LED therapy is a gentle way to soothe acne flare-ups.

Brightening Facials

This series contains a mixture of medical grade skincare, including chemical peels, masks, and serums to target hyperpigmentation and scarring.

Decongesting Facials

Clear out those blocked pores and resurface the top layer of your skin with a decongesting facial.

Microneedling

Microneedling is a wonderful option for those who want to remove their acne scars for good. Also known as collagen induction therapy, microneedling promotes increased blood flow and collagen production. Your skin’s overall health will improve with time.

What to Expect at Your Acne Treatment

After you have sat down for a consultation with one of our skin care experts and decided on a personalized plan, your first treatment will be scheduled. Prior to undergoing an acne facial, it is important to disclose any medication that you are presently taking. You will also be asked about your general health.

On the day of your treatment, please come to the office and get checked in. One of our specialists will bring you to the treatment room. You will be made as comfortable as possible before the start of your session.

Facials are relaxing and take about an hour. Depending on your treatment, different masks and apparatuses may be used. Once your acne treatment is complete, you are free to return to your normal day. These treatments require little to no downtime, and if any aftercare is required, we will let you know.

Maintaining Your Acne Treatment Results

After your acne facial, it is important to begin a gentle at-home skincare routine. Approaching acne aggressively may result in more severe breakouts. Therefore, you may wish to use products with zero alcohol. Reduce any exfoliating to once per week. If you have received a chemical peel, you may be asked to wear sun protection for a while. The team at DrSkin will advise you of any changes to your routine.

We recommend scheduling your treatments for every two to four weeks, depending on the kind of acne you experience and its severity.
