What Kind of Chemical Peels Are There?

There are several forms of acid available to create peels that treat the skin at different depths. The three that we use at DrSkin most commonly include:

Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs): This includes fruit, lactic, mandelic, and glycolic acids, which are among the lightest. Chemical peels using AHAs will leave your skin looking smoother and brighter. Fine wrinkles, dryness, acne, and pigmentation can all be treated with AHAs.
Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA): Common in medium-depth peels, TCA works on superficial blemishes, surface wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and so on.
Phenol: The strongest, deepest peel you can receive. Phenol peels are for those who are looking to remove coarse wrinkles and damaged skin.

How Are Chemical Peels Performed?

You are not limited just to your face! Chemical peels can be performed on the face, neck, chest, arms, hands, and legs. Depending on the condition you are trying to treat, a superficial, medium, or deep peel will be recommended by one of our experienced staff. Prior to treatment, you may be asked to stop certain medications. This will be discussed during your initial consultation.

We perform chemical peels in our cozy office, where our team will be with you around the clock. The process is simple. Once the skin has been cleansed to remove oils, you receive protection for your eyes and hair. A combination of solutions may be blended together during your session.

The solutions will be applied to your skin then left to sit for a designated amount of time. Eventually, the peeling begins. You may experience a hot sensation as the chemical peel begins to soak into your skin. Deeper peels may sting.

What Should I Expect Post-Chemical Peel?

Depending on the kind of facial peel you received, you may leave the office feeling like you have been sunburned. Superficial peeling includes some redness, then scaling, which typically lasts 3-5 days.

For a medium or deep peel, you can expect a little swelling alongside peeling. In some cases, blistering occurs.

It is important to limit overexposure to sunlight, as you are more susceptible to injury. Our team will supply you with aftercare instructions.

Are Chemical Peels Right For Me?

Chemical peels are available for most individuals. These days, the chemicals used in these kinds of treatments are much gentler, and so people with sensitive skin or darker tones can enjoy the benefits of facial peels.hat said, there are some populations who may be exempt from this treatment, including anyone who is pregnant or nursing. Any active acne breakouts must also end before a chemical peel can be done.

If you are using retinoids, you will need to stop taking them at least 3-4 days before your chemical peel appointment.
