What is a Thread Lift?

How Do Thread Lifts Work?

The thread lift procedure may sound complicated, but that is because it happens in two phases. The first part is rather straightforward. During the procedure, a technician takes a thread of dissolvable sutures and puts them under the skin. Those threads are then pulled taut in the regions being treated.

On the threads are little barbs—you don’t feel them, don’t worry—that grab onto the layers of skin to keep the skin tight. The barbs activate the healing response in your skin. Even though you are not being harmed, your body’s natural response is to try and heal the area. The result? Stimulated collagen. The collagen will plump up the regions when the skin has started to sag, leaving your face looking more youthful, even after the threads dissolve.

What To Expect During a Thread Lift

A thread lift procedure is sometimes called a lunch time lift, because it can be done in a short amount of time. This is good news, because you can have your thread lift done then continue on with your day—with some post-treatment aftercare to consider. The overall procedure is much the same, but our technicians may have to customize some of the steps to meet your needs.

On the day of your procedure, we will check you in and get you comfortable. In the office, you will be sat on a reclining chair. A topical anesthetic is used to prep the area being treated for the thread lift.
Most patients feel little to no discomfort during the procedure, but this depends on your tolerance.
Using a thin needle or cannula, the DrSkin technician will carefully insert the threads beneath your skin. This often takes 30 to 45 minutes.
With the threads inserted and pulled tight, you may feel some pressure in the area. This is light and should not linger.
Shortly after the needles are removed, your procedure will conclude and you can go back home to return to work.

Are There Any Side Effects or Risks?

One of the wonderful things about the thread lift is that there is little to no downtime. Being that procedure is minimally invasive, there is a very low chance for any scarring, pain, or infection. While these can happen, most complications can be treated and corrected right away.

After your thread lift, the treated area may feel a little irritated or painful. It is not uncommon to experience some swelling or bruising. We recommend acetaminophen and ice packs to relieve the pain and swelling. How Long Do Results Last?

You will notice right away that your skin looks a little tighter and more lifted. However, the initial tightening is only the first phase of your results. It takes a few months for collagen production to become noticeable, but the effects of the boosted collagen are long-lasting.

Within 6 months, the threads disappear from under your skin, leaving you looking vibrant and youthful.

Who is a Candidate for a Thread Lift?

Generally, those who would like to combat early signs of aging (those in their late 30s and early 50s), such as sagging or the loss of skin elasticity are the best candidates.

However, due to the low risk and minimal invasiveness of the thread lifts, this is an option for those who cannot undergo surgery for a variety of reasons.
