How Does RF Microneedling Work?

RF microneedling uses a tool with a roller adorned with needles on one end that a trained technician applies to the skin, puncturing it to cause tiny injuries that prompt the body to react. Skin injuries result in the production of collagen and elastin, which invigorates your skin and causes it to heal, which improves the overall appearance. Is RF Microneedling Different From Other Kinds of Microneedling?

At DrSkin, we offer two different kinds of microneedling. The first is traditional microneedling, which does not include radiofrequency technology. You may prefer traditional microneedling if you want more subtle results that take a little longer to become visible. RF microneedling, on the other hand, is recommended for overall enhancement, as the addition of RF stimulates collagen and elastin production far better.

What to Expect from RF Microneedling

RF microneedling may sound like a scary procedure, especially with all this talk of needles and punctures, but it is a straightforward and easygoing process. Prior to your treatment, you will meet with the DrSkin to have your skin assessed. During this time, you will be asked about your medical history, so we can better accommodate your needs.

On the day of your appointment, your skin will be cleaned and treated with a topical anesthetic at least 1 hour before your procedure. Sometimes, the technician may have to inject a local anesthetic to numb the area. There will be minimal discomfort afterwards.

Once the microneedling starts, it takes about 20 minutes. The duration is dependent on the size of the area being treated. At the end of the treatment, your technician will apply a healing serum to the skin to support rejuvenation.

Sessions will be completed every 3 to 8 weeks, based on the care plan we have agreed upon. Your skin will need to heal between these treatments.

Is There Any Downtime?

Although you can immediately return to your daily life after your RF microneedling session, you may need to relax for a little. It is important that you apply ice packs to reduce any swelling. Wear SPF for several weeks after your microneedling treatment, since your skin is going to be sensitive to sun exposure. DrSkin may prescribe some emollients or creams to assist with healing; please use them regularly.

Lastly, avoid makeup for 24 hours post-treatment!

Who is a Good Candidate for RF Microneedling?

While RF microneedling is considered safe and effective for most individuals, some people may be exempt. Generally, if you are in good health and are experiencing early signs of aging, RF microneedling is right for you.

Anyone who has recently had a cold sore breakout, skin or viral infection should avoid RF microneedling. Moderate to severe skin disorders, such as psoriasis, should be cleared with a dermatologist or medical professional before you consider microneedling. Pregnancy and cancer also prevent you from getting RF microneedling.
