What Can I Expect During My Breast Implant Exchange Procedure?

Once you have woken up from general anesthesia and have been cleared by Dr. Jaiswal, you will be released into the care of a close friend or family member. Dr. Jaiswal will also review the post-op care instructions with you and your caretaker to ensure you follow these instructions carefully.
Recovery from breast implant exchange takes approximately 1 to 8 weeks, similar to your initial breast augmentation recovery. You will likely experience 1 to 2 weeks of downtime after the procedure and should exclusively rest for the first seven days with light walking to help with blood circulation. During this time, any intense post-operative pain and discomfort will dissipate. For the better part of the first week, your job is solely to sleep and rest.
After the first week, swelling and bruising will begin to resolve, and you should feel more like yourself. You can start walking more and moving around more frequently, but you should refrain from heavy lifting or applying pressure on the breasts.
Most patients return to work within 10 to 14 days after surgery. The sutures used are dissolvable and will slowly disintegrate naturally over time. Continue to refrain from all strenuous exercises and heavy lifting until you are cleared for activities by Dr. Jaiswal. Light, sedentary work is safe and acceptable.

The final results of a breast implant exchange procedure are usually visible after six to eight weeks of recovery. Any scarring is well-concealed within the native coloration of the areolas, in the natural crease of the breast, or in the fold of the armpit and will continue to fade within a year, leaving you with no more scarring than that of your initial breast augmentation procedure.
