What to Expect During Your Breast Augmentation Consultation?
Everybody is unique and so are their goals—from the density of a person’s tissue to the texture of their skin to their unique bodily measurements. For this reason, breast augmentations are carefully tailored to the specific needs of the individual.
When you arrive for your initial complimentary consultation at DrSkin Med Spa, you will be greeted by one of our providers who will guide you through our detailed, hands-on process.
After being greeted, you will be led to a private treatment room to discuss your concerns surrounding the appearance of your breasts. Your clinician will educate you about breast augmentation options and other possible treatments while answering your questions and concerns. You will have a chance to feel different breast implant types and styles and learn about their advantages and disadvantages, the procedural process, and what to expect during your recovery.
The provider will take a series of photographs and measurements, provide a list of potential surgical fees, and answer any follow-up questions. Your provider will then share these photos and measurements with Dr. Jaiswal who will determine your candidacy for treatment and begin finalizing the cost of your surgical plan.
Once Dr. Jaiswal determines your candidacy, the provider will contact you to discuss his feedback and proceed with possible next steps. Once you’ve confirmed that you are ready to move forward, a formal quote is provided, and a second consultation with Dr. Jaiswal will be scheduled to dive further into your breast augmentation surgical plan, expected recovery, and other details regarding your procedure.
The Different Types of Breast Implants
Dr. Jaiswal has extensive experience working with all types of breast implant devices. At DrSkin Med Spa, patients are given the choice of silicone or saline breast implants. Silicone breast implants are often recommended and preferred due to their superior technology and similarities to natural breast tissue. However, saline breast implants offer unique benefits as well. Saline implants pose no risk of localized irritation if they rupture or leak as saline can be absorbed by the body without any risks. Additionally, saline implants are easier to customize because the implant is filled upon insertion, allowing Dr. Jaiswal the freedom to create a customized implant size for his patient.
Lastly, Dr. Jaiswal offers patients looking for a more natural approach to breast augmentation the option of choosing breast augmentation with fat grafting. For this advanced approach, liposuction is performed in a secondary donor site, such as the abdomen, flanks, inner thighs, or buttocks, where stubborn fat is rich, easily removed, purified, and strategically injected into the breast. This will increase the breast’s volume without using an artificial device.
Dr. Jaiswal’s favorite breast augmentation procedure, however, is the combination of silicone implants and fat grafting. This provides patients with the most natural-looking and feeling breasts and adds desirable and sustainable volume, symmetry, and projection.
Breast Implant Shapes and Sizes
Saline and silicone breast implants are available in round or teardrop shapes and come in a wide range of shapes, sizes, and textures. While it is helpful to have a general idea of the “cup size” you want to achieve, implants come in many volumes that do not correlate with A, B, C, D, or E cup sizes. As a result, we will have you try on a few different options to determine the best shape and size for your body type. Dr. Jaiswal will offer his expertise and insight during your consultation based on your preferences and body proportions.
Breast Implant Placement
Another decision that you and Dr. Jaiswal will make during your consultation is the best placement option for your breast implants. Dr. Jaiswal can create the implant pocket under or over the chest muscle. Each option offers advantages and will ultimately be determined by your anatomical indicators.
Submuscular Placement:
Under the muscle, or “submuscular placement,” can be advantageous for patients with thin or weak breast skin or who do not have enough natural breast tissue to properly cover the breast implant. By inserting the implant underneath the chest muscle, the risk of visible implant edges is greatly reduced, and the results look more natural—particularly if larger implants are being used.
Subglandular Placement:
Over the muscle, or “subglandular placement,” is generally chosen for patients who actively work out and have defined chest muscles, such as bodybuilders. The implants are inserted between the breast glands and chest muscles, thus limiting implant movement during physical activity.
Breast Augmentation Techniques
Breast augmentation is performed using three potential incision techniques. The size of your breast implants, implant material, patient body type, and desired goals will determine which technique Dr. Jaiswal will use to create the most natural results.
Generally, implants will be placed using one of the following incision types.
Periareolar. An incision is made along the lower half of the areola, similar to the shape of a crescent moon. A periareolar breast augmentation can be beneficial for patients who do not have a well-defined breast fold or those who are prone to thick, raised scarring, referred to as hypertrophic or keloid scars.
Inframammary. The most common breast augmentation technique, the inframammary incision is created along the natural crease underneath the breast. This location offers the most versatility as natural results can be achieved whether the chosen implants are small, large, saline, or silicone.
Transaxillary. This incision is created in the fold of the patient’s underarm, leaving the breast unscarred. Most plastic surgeons use saline implants when making a transaxillary incision because the implants are filled after they’re placed behind the breast. However, Dr. Jaiswal is an experienced transaxillary technician and offers patients both options, silicone and saline implants, which can be placed through a transaxillary incision, for a scarless breast augmentation.

Preparing for Your Breast Augmentation
One week prior to your breast augmentation procedure, Dr. Jaiswal may ask patients to stop taking aspirin and blood thinners that can interfere with the body’s ability to clot blood normally. Dr. Jaiswal will call in your prescriptions to your preferred pharmacy 48 to 72 hours before surgery and will confirm you have them in advance of your procedure. Patients will be provided with written and verbal pre- and post-operative instructions, which are discussed and reviewed several times to ensure mutual understanding and compliance. Patients should wear comfortable clothing on the day of their surgery, preferably a shirt that buttons up in the front, be freshly showered, and be free of perfumes or lotions.
What Can You Expect on the Day of Your Breast Augmentation
When you arrive at our state-of-the-art, world-class surgical facility, in Gilbert, Arizona, on the day of your breast augmentation, you will be greeted by our patient coordinator and taken to the operating room. Then, Dr. Jaiswal will arrive to review the details of your customized breast augmentation. He will use a non-toxic pen to mark the specific areas on your breast where he plans to place incisions and alter your breast to your desired size.
As Dr. Jaiswal marks your skin, he will discuss his approach to your breast augmentation, including general anesthesia, where he will make the incisions, how he plans to place the breast implants, the type of dissolvable sutures he will use, any expected discomfort, and review your post-operative instructions.
Once the surgical area is thoroughly prepared, a board-certified anesthesiologist will put you into a deep and comfortable sleep, and Dr. Jaiswal will begin the surgical process, which generally requires 45 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the specific nature of your breast augmentation. If you have elected to add fat grafting to your breast augmentation the procedure will take an additional 45 minutes to 1 hour. If you have opted for a fat grafting-only breast augmentation your expected procedure time is 1 to 2 hours.
After the surgery is complete, your incisions will be closed, and you will be taken to a private room for recovery.
Breast Augmentation Recovery
Once you have woken up from anesthesia and cleared by Dr. Jaiswal, you will be released to your caretaker. Dr. Jaiswal will also review the post-op care instructions with you and your caretaker to ensure you follow these instructions carefully.
Recovery from breast augmentation generally takes approximately 1 to 8 weeks; however, this varies by patient. You will likely experience 1 to 2 weeks of social downtime after the procedure and should rest for the first 7 days. During this time, any intense post-operative pain and discomfort will dissipate. Light walking is encouraged immediately after surgery to stimulate blood flow and healing factors, but only after Dr. Jaiswal says it’s safe. For the better part of the first week, your job is to sleep and rest.
After the first week, swelling and bruising will resolve, and you should feel more like yourself. You can start walking more and moving around more frequently, but you should refrain from heavy lifting or pressure on the breasts.
Most patients return to work within 2 weeks after surgery. Your sutures are dissolvable and will slowly disintegrate naturally over time. Refrain from strenuous exercises and heavy lifting during this time, but light, sedentary work is safe and acceptable.
By weeks 4 and 5, you’ll be able to start thoroughly enjoying the results of your breast augmentation. Your incisions should be fully healed, and your implants should be settling into place.
With dedication to our patient’s safety, health, and general well-being, our post-op protocol is extremely hands-on and attentive. We schedule mandatory follow-up appointments with Dr. Jaiswal and another physician on our staff the day after your surgery, weekly for one month, and monthly for up to 3 to 4 months. This protocol helps ensure successful outcomes and a comfortable, safe recovery of our patients.
Final results are usually visible within 6 to 8 weeks. Any scarring is well-concealed within the native coloration of the areolas, in the natural crease of the breast, or the fold of the armpit and will continue to fade within a year, leaving you with no visible marks or reminders of your surgery and incisions.

Should I Wait to Have a Breast Augmentation Until I’m Finished Having Children?
The decision to undergo a breast augmentation or any breast enhancement procedure is deeply personal. It can be difficult to determine a “right” or “wrong” time to undergo such a transformation. Women who choose to have their augmentation prior to their decision to have a family, or before they’re done having children, will likely experience some changes to their initial results after pregnancy and breastfeeding. For this reason, many women choose to wait to have their breast augmentation to avoid needing a secondary surgery to address the effects of childbearing.
Will Breast Implants Interfere with Future Mammograms?
Breast implants can interfere with a mammogram reading in some patients, specifically individuals who have implants that are placed subglandular (above the muscle). However, this interference is greatly reduced with submuscular implants (behind the muscle). This is an important issue for women with a strong family history of breast cancer and should be discussed during your breast augmentation consultation.
Will Breast Implant Interfere with Physical Activities?
If the gym keeps you feeling healthy, happy, and confident, we are excited to tell you that you don’t have to give up your gym membership when you get breast implants. You don’t have to discontinue any of your favorite exercises after your breast augmentation has completely healed either. For more active patients, breast implants are generally placed over the chest muscles to avoid any significant changes in the appearance of the breasts from intense physical activities.
When completely healed, wear bras that provide plenty of support during exercise and daily activities. Additionally, if you live a very active lifestyle be sure to discuss the appropriate size breast implant for your level of activity with your plastic surgeon at your consultation.
How Can I Decide What Size Implants I Should Get?
The implant size you choose depends on many factors, including your goals, lifestyle, and figure. Just as the same bra or t-shirt may fit differently according to their chest size and shape, the same size implants may look completely different from patient to patient. During your consultation, the implant size and placements will be carefully chosen to fit your unique anatomy. Dr. Jaiswal will offer his expertise and insight during your consultation based on your preferences and body proportions.
How Long Do Breast Implants Typically Last?
Most patients can expect their breast implants to last for at least 10 years after their initial surgery. For some patients, implants can last far longer, extending up to 20 years. We understand this is an ambiguous timeline, but it is only because implants do not come with an expiration date assigned to them. Typically, implants only need to be replaced before 10 years if a physical complication, such as rupture or hardening, has occurred. If this were to happen, you’d need to have your current implants removed and replaced with new implants.
